COVID-19 NOTE: Summer Camp 2021 will include a mix of overnight camp, online camp at home, and family retreats, as published on the Caroline Furnace website. All applicants and hired employees will be notified of any updates or changes as that information comes available. We hired a full staff in summer 2020 and plan to do the same in 2021. Come work at Caroline Furnace this summer! Caroline Furnace Lutheran Camp & Retreat Center is in Fort Valley VA, just north of Harrisonburg, in the Massanutten Mountains. We offer eight weeks of Summer Camp to grades 1-12, with activities such as canoeing (both day and multi-night), rock climbing, hiking, biking, archery, horseback riding, fishing, and more. New campers arrive each Sunday afternoon and stay until Friday afternoon. Each week has new camps and activities scheduled - every week is a new adventure! Gain real-world experience in marketable skills sought by Fortune 500 companies: leadership, communication, problem solving, and more. Form lifelong connections. We have an active staff alumni group, whose close friendships span decades and who come from a variety of personal and professional backgrounds. Live and play in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, near Washington DC. Experience George Washington National Forest, the Shenandoah River, Skyline Drive, and Shenandoah National Park - all within a short walk or drive. You'll need an endless supply of energy, love, enthusiasm, patience, and kindness. You must be able to share your faith story and encourage young people to grow in their own relationship with Jesus Christ. You must embrace the adventure of the outdoors and work well in a team. Flexible, paid academic internships are available. We are currently seeking interns in Outdoor Education and Recreation, as well as Environmental/Sustainability, Marketing & Communications, Music, Theatre, Religion/Theology, Healthcare and more.

We are affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Housing is provided and required. Expected pay starts at $2,000, plus lodging and meals, with higher pay for experience at any camp, years in college, and certifications.
